Are You All Aboard The Flat Croissant Trend?

This feels illegal to say, but flat croissants are a thing now and people are actually enjoying it or completely hating it. Sylvie from ‘Emily in Paris’ is definitely hating this. I mean let’s be real, sometimes those croissants from Starbucks end up being flat anyway so maybe we can get behind it after all?

You’ll have to make your way to Alexander’s Patisserie in Mountain View, California to taste one of these controversial flat croissants that takes a full 7 hours to make.

Responding to consumer requests and drawing inspiration from Korean cuisine, Alexander’s Patisserie introduced its flattened croissants earlier this year, priced at $6.50 each. These crunchy, crispy, and buttery treats are available in its natural butter flavor or dipped in either mango or strawberry chocolate.

Once the bakery posted to its Instagram, some fans were really into it. One user noted, “I’m definitely intrigued,” and another said, “Now make one with cheese please.” And some were straight up asking why in French. This user was so passionate about croissants that she said, “Why do people want to tinker with perfection?! A croissant is the pinnacle of patisserie. I can’t stand people filling it or putting stuff on it! IT IS PERFECT AS IS!”

So, are you willing to test out this latest trend? We have a feeling this croissant flip may be an annual thing. Just last year, the #CrispyCroissant recipe was trending. It required folks to flatten the pastry with a rolling pin, fry it in honey and butter, and top it off with something sweet and savory like whipped cream.
