AMC Theatres Plan To Release Its Own Candy Brand

Movie theaters are still recovering following the devastating impact of the pandemic. To help boost revenue, AMC Theatres has just announced plans to release its own signature candy line later this year or early next. According to Fox 10, the announcement was made by AMC Chairman & CEO Adam Aron during a recent earnings call.

“We noticed recently as a result of the pandemic and the supply chain shortages that candy manufacturers had increased their price to us by a huge amount,” he said. “Some candy makers increasing their cost for wholesale candy as much as 33% in a one-time bump. That got us thinking very hard about our candy.”

While the candy plans are definitely in motion, AMC has yet to divulge what types it will offer. Aron shared that concession stands will still carry other brands, just not exclusively. This is but one of many strategic attempts AMC has made to reinvigorate the movie-going experience.

Last year they launched “Discount Tuesdays” which lowered ticket prices to $5, a considerable drop from standard prices which often are upwards of $20 per person. The discount came to an end this past January.

This year the release schedule is stacked with three dozen more movies than last year. Time will tell whether or not theaters rebound. For now, at least we have AMC-branded candy to look forward to.
