Amazon One’s Palm Tech Gets Major Upgrade At NYC Whole Foods Locations

Amazon continues to evolve the Whole Foods shopping experience with its palm purchasing technology. Popular Instagram account, @secret_nyc, shared a video demonstrating the latest upgrade. Whereas originally, Amazon One could only be used for purchases at checkout, the checkout experience itself is poised to be forever altered. Rather than standing in line, registered customers can simply walk in, grab what they want, and walk out.

What would be considered theft today, will soon become a normal part of the grocery shopping experience. The video explains the functionality of the technology, highlighting that traditional items like a phone or payment card are no longer necessary; instead, you can use your palm. When entering the store, you scan your palm, informing the store that you are a shopper. Whole Foods employs biometric palm prints, weight sensors, and cameras to track purchases. Shelves can detect when products are taken through weight differences. Upon exiting, cameras verify the purchase, and Amazon One automatically charges your account.

The new tech is currently rolling out in New York City, but no information has been released regarding Amazon One’s nationwide plans.
