It goes without saying that Saturday Night Live is one of America’s greatest comedic gifts to the world. Since 1975, the show has used comedy to lampoon the glamorous, ugly, absurd, and downright weird parts of popular culture. Comedy brings levity to heavy situations and allows you to say what everyone thinks but isn’t brave enough to say aloud — and that’s the best part about SNL. 

Of the myriad of topics that SNL has covered over the years, skits involving food are always some of the most hilarious. From Bobby Moynihan’s pitch perfect Guy Fieri to Ana Gasteyer’s classic dry humor-filled NPR’s Delicious Dish, there’s a never-ending buffet of laughs.

Taco Town

In this hilarious parody of a fast food commercial, SNL alum Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and Jason Sudeikis try their best to enjoy a new menu item that just keeps getting bigger and more outrageous.

This legendary SNL segment led by Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon is a masterclass in dry-humor. In this particular episode, the hosts welcome baker Pete Schweddy (played by Alec Baldwin) to talk about his "Schweddy" balls.

Jon Hamm's John Ham

The writers were probably dying of laughter when they came up with Jon Hamm's John Ham. It's such a simple yet silly idea that Hamm nails without breaking character.

The French Chef

The legend Dan Aykroyd nails his impersonation of famous chef Julia Childs in his recreation of her popular cooking show, "The French Chef." Everything is normal until he has an accident with a knife and humorously attempts to continue filming as if nothing has happened.

Crystal Gravy

SNL is one of the best at mocking popular culture, and one of the most entertaining ways they do it is with its spin on television commercials. Crystal Gravy parodies the concept of Crystal Pepsi, a clear soda that was released in the 90s.

Dysfunctional Family Dinner

A classic SNL scene that features Will Ferrell, Ana Gasteyer, and Sarah Michelle Gellar as a dysfunctional family having dinner. Things began calmly enough before erupting into a ruckus at the table. It's one of the funniest emotional rollercoaster rides ever.

The Olympia Restaurant

Inspired by Billy Goat Tavern, which is located in Chicago, this sketch features SNL greats John Belushi, Bill Murray, and Dan Aykroyd recreating the boisterous experience of eating at a Greek-owned restaurant.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is Not Retiring

One of the best at impersonations, Kate McKinnon brings to life former associate justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and pokes fun at the idea of her refusing to retire despite her age. She credits copious amounts of Emergen-C for keeping her healthy.

Anal Retentive Chef

Phil Hartman is a SNL legend and his segment as the Anal Retentive Chef is easily one of the most classic food sketches on the show. In it, he plays a television host for a cooking show aptly titled "The Anal Retentive Chef." As the name suggests, his OCD kicks in, and ultimately, he never gets to the actual cooking part of the show.

Nikey Turkey

This sketch is a perfect encapsulation of an early 90s-style hip-hop music video. Comedy giant Chris Rock raps about a new product called the "Nikey Turkey" that features a Nike shoe pump on it. When your turkey is too small to feed the whole family, use the pump to plump it up.

Trendy Restaurant

This SNL sketch definitely isn't for the kiddies. In it, a "glory hole" is used as a way to serve dinner guests food. Unsurprisingly, all of the food served have phallic characteristics. It's a pretty dirty joke cleverly veiled behind a fine dining setting.

Colon Blow

Another classic Phil Hartman segment, Colon Blow is a commercial about an extremely fiber-rich cereal by the same name. Let's just say that if you eat it, you'll have absolutely zero worries about constipation.

Heinz Relax

All to avoid being the butt of a fart joke, Will Farrell's character decides to purchase a new Heinz product that makes a sound eerily similar to someone moaning sexually. Called the Heinz Relax, the sound is supposed to resemble a calming sigh, yet doesn't at all.

Pepsi Commercial

One of the most talked about commercials of 2017 was a Pepsi ad that featured Kendall Jenner. SNL parodies the incident from the perspective of the person who directed and came up with the idea. As it is being shot, the director (perfectly played by Beck Bennett) answers calls from close friends who share their concerns about the messaging of the commercial.
