Hotel Made of Cake Encourages Visitors to Eat Their Way Through Walls

It took more than 1,300 pounds of sugar, 2,000 macarons, 2,000 hours of baking and 900 hours of construction to set up a pop-up “Cake Hotel” in London promoting Tate & Lyle Sugars’ new range of golden and brown cane sugars. Although, before you pack your bags and make a mad sugar rush for England, let me break it to you now: This edible hotel was a one-day-only event (March 21st) and has since been ravaged by hungry sweet tooths.

The “Tasting House” featured eight rooms, each decked out according to different regions around the world. Notable works of extravagance include a Mediterranean-inspired bathroom with a rug fashioned out of 1,081 meringues and a claw tub filled with caramel-popcorn. Oh, and there was a Mayan fudge temple, an enormous sugar treasure chest piled with ginger-spiced doubloons and towers of pastries. No big.

Guests were encouraged to eat the walls, carpets, pillows and just about everything edible within an arms reach.

Sigh, if only the guys and gals who orchestrated this real-life gingerbread house could bring that level of dessert decadence to sunny California. Yes, this is a very informal invite, Tate & Lyle.
