This French Restaurant Cooks Actual Dirt & Charges You $110 To Eat It

I’m sorry but if you placed a shot of dirt soup (see above) in front of me, I would politely excuse myself from the table  and never turn back. Really now, there are dishes that test the boundaries of food in fabulous ways — Sriracha Ice Cream Sandwiches, Bacon Milkshakes, etc. — and then there’s this abomination: A full-course meal made of dirt.

Sigh, this is why we can’t have nice things.

A French restaurant named Ne Quittez Pas in Tokyo’s Gotanda district recently unveiled their dirt-made-chic menu. Using only the finest dirt money can buy, the  high-quality black soil comes from Kanuma, Tochigi Prefecture. The soil is “strictly tested for safety and purity,” in case you have qualms about eating compost.

I have to give it to the writer for sacrificing her palate for the curiosity of Rocket24‘s readers. The dishes include “dirt risotto,” “salad with dirt dressing” and more dirt-infused items she depicts as “divine” and void of the “characteristic yeasty smell of soil.” Uh huh. Honey, anything tastes decent if you throw enough salt and sugar on it.
