Taco Bell CEO Talks New Doritos Locos Tacos Flavors — Cool Ranch, Hot and Spicy

Taco Bell’s Doritos Locos Taco is interesting for more reasons than just its shell made of a popular snack chip.

In just over 10 weeks, the fast food giant has sold more than 100 million of these Nacho Cheese-laced tacos. The success of the the Doritos Locos Tacos rollout has almost seemingly eradicated any trailing damaging thoughts from last year’s consumer lawsuit against their beef quality.

The momentum from the Doritos Locos Tacos is a fashionable one, it seems. Taco Bell is projecting second-quarter same-store sales to be rather stellar this year.

Company CEO Greg Creed hopes the current buzz will carry over into their other 2012 initiatives, including more Doritos Locos Tacos flavors, the continued test and rollout of their Cantina Bell menu, their FirstMeal breakfast options and apparently a new Happier Hour menu for snacking?

The fact that Frito-Lay has more than 100 flavors of Doritos makes the inclusion of the Doritos Locos Taco as a permanent Taco Bell menu item all the more interesting. The next version of the snack-chip inspired taco will be a Cool Ranch flavor. Creed also mentioned that a Hot and Spicy version will likely be available sometime in 2013.

With the pipeline ready, and pending the long term interest in the product, the Doritos Locos Tacos definitely acts as a powerful new mascot for the brand. Imagine all the cool flavors that are at the team’s fingertips…
