Just Heard: Starbucks Announces New Pumpkin Spice Latte Ice Cream

This morning, our friends over at TheDailyMeal.com  gave us the scoop, ahem, on Starbucks’ latest seasonal innovation: Pumpkin Spice Latte Ice Cream. The new brain freeze is an ambrosial swirl of pumpkin and coffee ice cream. We’re envisioning this Pumpkin Spice Latte Ice cream being served with warm pumpkin pie, then topped off with a heavy dose of whip cream sprinkled with cinnamon. Or howabout pumpkin beer and a few hefty dollops of the Pumpkin Spice Latte Ice Cream? Bam, a pumpkin on pumpkin beer float.

Our recipe musings aside, we’re guessing the ice cream comes as a convenient substitute that will tide Starbucks fiends suffering from the Pumpkin Pie syrup shortage. According to HuffPo, the Starbucks food segment “generates about  $1.5 billion a year and has become an important part of the company’s revenue stream.” As of now, the coffee mogul is testing a list of new food items, including: “a whole wheat spinach croissant, a ham and cheese croissant, and a tomato, cheese and herb croissant.”

‘Til then, expect to see the Pumpkin Spice Latte Ice Cream hit Starbucks franchises on November 1st. At $3.99 a pint, the flavor will only be available until February 2012. That gives you about four months to stock up on your pumpkin fix.
