Anthony Bourdain Says Goodbye to No Reservations, Travels to CNN

If you have been living under a non-food-obsessed rock lately, you might be unaware that a somewhat surprising announcement has been made on behalf of CNN .  Just a few days ago, the cable news network released a statement that Anthony Bourdain, renowned chef and TV personality, will be hosting his own weekend prime-time show on the network in early 2013.

According to the CNN press release, the show will be similar to ‘No Reservations’, in that it “will be shot on location and examine cultures from around the world through their food and dining and travel rituals.”

You might think this would be an odd fit for Bourdain, considering his outspoken personality, and his unconventional opinions on food — however, the chef  appears to be pretty positive about the decision:

“I’m really looking forward to coming over to CNN. I think the world is going to get a whole lot bigger for me, I hope that old fans and new ones will be excited about what’s coming down the road”, said Bourdain.

Although, his excitement would seem to make sense, considering his distaste with [Scripps- also the parent company of the Travel Channel ] The Food Network.

So what does this mean for all of us die-hard ‘No Reservations’ fans? I am sure you can still catch re-runs on the Travel Channel, or even on Netflix- so one can’t feel too deprived. My hope is that this new program is just as popular with his viewers, ensuring its longevity- because a world without Anthony Bourdain would be a sad world indeed.

What do you think about Anthony’s move to CNN- is it a smart idea, or imminent disaster?
