McDonald’s Roadside Seed Bombing

If you looked at the photo above and did a Mcdouble-take, yes, that is the warm and inviting McDonald’s logo, casually sitting on the side of the road.

An interesting advertising idea recently brought to light by graphic designer Sean Click, the photo shows the logo entirely made of California’s state flower, the California Poppy.

You might be wondering, why the hell it’s on the side of a highway, but its part of the genius. By California state law, it is illegal to mess with flowers that are growing on the side of the road. So if these Eschscholzia californica just happen to be planted in the shape of two connected golden arches, it would be illegal for anti-McDonald’s activists, or Burger King fans to pick these poppies. (Yes, it’s legit. Under penal code 384a.)

Sure it’s just a concept, but could it be the beginning of a weird, rose parade-style advertising trend? Have companies been wasting thousands of dollars on billboards when they could have just hired a creative florist? Could the Hamburgler and Grimace stand behind the Seed Bombing trend?

The seed has been planted.
