A Flamin’ Hot Cheeto Shaped Like A Charizard Sold For Nearly $90K
“Gotta catch ’em all.” You either know it or you don’t. If that tagline doesn’t ring a bell, chances are you missed the Pokémon craze. But even if you’re not a fan, you probably know how obsessed some people are with it—so don’t be shocked when we tell you that on March 2, someone dropped $87,840 on a single Flamin’ Hot Cheeto shaped like Charizard. Yes, that’s nearly 90K for one spicy, oddly-shaped snack.
If you’re not familiar with Charizard, it’s an orange, dragon-like Pokémon and the final evolution of Charmander, following Charmeleon. Maybe that’s why this single 3-inch chip, fondly nicknamed “Cheetozard,” sold for nearly the equivalent of a house down payment.
According to the New Jersey-based marketplace, “We’ve had the Cheetozard for about five years,” adding, “We completely forgot about it until we were cleaning out the safe!” It was then listed on February 10 with a modest starting bid of $250. By the time the auction closed, Goldin, the online marketplace, had received nearly 60 bids.
Cheetozard is affixed to a customized Pokémon card and encapsulated in a clear card storage box, where it was initially discovered and preserved sometime between 2018-2022 by 1st & Goal Collectibles. I really hope that this clear capsule continues to preserve the chip and prevent it from spoiling – for the buyer’s sake.
Hilariously, the official Cheetos account acknowledged the sale with a single emoji: “👀.“
