Slice Soda Returns With A Gutsy Upgrade After 15-Year Hiatus
Between the 1980s and 2000s, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo were locked in a high-stakes rivalry, trading blows through hilariously unhinged ads that took direct shots at each other. Beyond their classic colas, the competition extended to lemon-lime sodas, with Coca-Cola introducing Sprite and PepsiCo offering 7UP. But for those born before 1995, PepsiCo’s Slice—a fruitier take on soft drinks—might be a forgotten gem.
Originally launched in 1984, Slice was PepsiCo’s answer to Sprite, positioned alongside 7UP in the lemon-lime soda market. However, by 2010, Slice had vanished from store shelves. Now, after a 15-year hiatus, Suja Life—who acquired the brand in 2024—has proudly announced its return.
What set Slice apart from 7UP was its impressive 10% real juice content. The original lemon-lime flavor was soon followed by orange, strawberry, pineapple, fruit punch, and grape. The soft drink’s memorable slogan? “We got the juice.”
Since PepsiCo sold the Slice brand to Suja Life, the product has undergone a major health-focused transformation. Now featuring a “Gutsy Blend”—a digestive-supporting mix of prebiotics—Slice is positioning itself within the trendy “better-for-you” beverage movement. No longer just another soft drink competing with Sprite and 7UP, Slice is now a functional soda entering a crowded market, facing stiff competition from established probiotic soda brands like Olipop, Culture POP, and Wildwonder.
