7-Eleven Launching Larger, Food-Focused Stores

7-Eleven is poised for further expansion. According to an investor presentation, the popular convenience chain plans to introduce 600 large-format, food-focused convenience stores in North America.

Dubbed the “New Standard,” the format follows the company’s previous retail experiment, “Evolution,” which was opened in March 2019 and featured expanded offerings like 7-Eleven’s Mexican QSR, Laredo Taco Company, as well as made-to-order specialty beverages, self-serve specialty coffee, a cold treats bar, mobile checkout, and delivery capabilities.

7-Eleven created the New Standard using data compiled from Evolution. It will feature many of the same elements, with an expanded food and beverage selection, in-store seating, and electric vehicle charging stations.

The first location opened its doors in September in Allen, Texas, outside of Dallas. So far, the new retail experience has resulted in an 11% return on the investment and has out-performed Evolution stores by 30%. One hundred fifteen New Standard stores are planned by the end of 2024.
