Swiss Food Tech Company Launches Plant-Based Whole-Cut Steak
The food industry is innovating at a rapid pace. From lab-grown meats to cooking oil made from algae, it’s exciting to see the potential of food in the future.
Swiss food tech company Planted has created a new plant-based steak alternative: fermented whole-cut steak. It’s a first-of-its-kind meat; whole muscle cuts of beef loin-style protein made with soya, rapeseed oil, beans, rice, a proprietary blend of microbial cultures, and grown using fermentation.
The fermentation process reduces CO2e emissions 97% more than traditional beef. Not only is it more sustainable, fermented whole-cut steak was made to be super flavorful with a juicy mouthfeel and is loaded with protein, fiber, B12, and iron. Planted first launched in Europe, starting with retailers in Switzerland and Germany. Now, restaurants and select supermarkets in France are getting in on the fermented steak experience.
Described as “planted.steak,” Planted joins other companies like Juicy Marbles, Chunk Foods, Meati Foods, and Umami in pioneering the fermented protein space. Pascal Bieri, co-founder of the company, said it has worked with more than 50 gastronomy professionals to create the fermented steak.
Planted products are now available at retailers across Europe.
