Brooklyn Pizzeria Flourishes Amid Drake And Kendrick’s Intense Rap Rivalry

Poetic justice? More like poetic warfare.

For weeks, personal shots have been fired back and forth between two of hip-hop’s most prominent rap superstars, Drake and Kendrick Lamar, during their highly publicized battle flooding the internet. When there’s rap beef, there’s no barriers, which means anything and everything can be leveraged during lyrical combat.

In one of the several diss tracks released by Lamar last week, “6:16 in LA” name-dropped renowned Brooklyn pizzeria Lucali, which was enough to excite hordes of people to swarm the spot and boost Lucali’s Yelp and Google pages with 5-star reviews.

“My visa, passport tatted, I show up in Ibiza / Lucali’s dwellings in Brooklyn just to book me some pizza,” Lamar raps.

According to Genius, the nod to Lucali appears to be a response to Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle” where the 6 God raps, “Dot, I know you’re in that NY apartment, you strugglin’ right now, I know it / In the notepad doing lyrical gymnastics, my boy.” A reference to the $8.6 million penthouse K.Dot purchased in Brooklyn.

Before the mention, Lucali had already been revered as one of Brooklyn’s most popular pizzerias since its launch in 2006 where celebrities like Beyonce, Jay Z, and even Drake have visited.

The amplified success of Lucali follows suit after Toronto restaurant, New Ho King became the talk of the town after it was mentioned in Kendrick’s prior lyrical assault fired at Drake, titled “Euphoria”.

According to Eater NYC, American pizzaiolo and owner Mark Iacono recently realized that it was “business as usual” for him until his pizzeria began experiencing its longest lines to date. Only then did a few customers finally allude to the ongoing rap feud, which had previously been unbeknownst to him.

While we may not all be on the same side when it comes to where our alliances lie in the matters of all things K. Dot or Drizzy, there’s one thing most folks can agree on: we are all Team Pizza.
