Fruit Stripe Gum To Be Discontinued

From Choco Taco, Dunkaroos, Snack Wraps to now Fruit Stripe Gum, every year there seems to be a fan-favorite product that must be put to rest. And now, after a century, Fruit Stripe Gum is being discontinued.

Renowned for its bright packaging, colorful stripes and mascot, Yipes the Zebra, the gum was a hit with consumers when it first hit shelves in 1969. Fruit Stripe’s manufacturer, Ferrara Candy, announced the gum is being discontinued and quietly halted production of the gum line in 2022.

“The decision to sunset this product was not taken lightly, and we considered many factors before coming to this decision, including consumer preferences, and purchasing patterns,” Ferrara said in a statement to Food & Wine.

We can’t be all surprised given that Americans are chewing gum less. In fact, to date, overall gum sales are still down about 32 percent from 2018, according to data provided by Circana.

Now, if you’re an older millennial and a huge fan, you may be able to find some of the nostalgic gum in stores if you’re lucky, but looks like whatever supply was left on Amazon is sold out or unavailable.

Who knows? If you find a pack now, you can likely sell it on eBay for a pretty penny.
