Hits Only: The Best 5 Dishes I’ve Had This Week
To me, the best part about a meal is sharing it with someone. So in the spirit of sharing with you friends the deliciousness that is a Foodbeast’s many food adventures, I present to you the five best dishes I’ve had this week. Hits only, no skippers.
DIY Korean Rice Balls AKA Fist Rice
Hanshin Pocha – Rowland Heights, CA
Sure we were taught growing up not to play with our food, but today we’re rolling, packing, and eating these rice balls with the same rebel fist that we’re pumping in the air to celebrate just how good this dish is.
Lobster alla Catalana Pasta
Mon Ami – Santa Monica, CA
This new Santa Monica restaurant has hotspot potential written all over it. With a pasta dish as good as the Lobster alla Catalana, return visits are a must. Tagliolini pasta is rich in lobster flavor and the creamy tomato-saffron sauce is a decadent slurp that keeps your fork twirling.
Liempo Sinigang
Regi’s Turo Turo – Los Angeles, CA
Sinigang is a Filipino favorite that entices palates with its lip-puckering sourness from a tamarind soup base. The flip on this dish is turning that uber tart broth into a glaze that gets drenched over tender, smoky pork belly. One bite and I was convinced that I can eat this for a week straight.
Vegan Chicken Cutlet
The Vegan Joint – Los Angeles, CA
Hands down the best vegan fried chicken that I’ve ever had. The crisp and crunch were there like familiar old friends and the seitan protein used was an admirable stuntman for being consumed by my fried chicken-loving self.
Hiroshima-Style Okonomiyaki
Chinchikurin – Los Angeles, CA
The loaded sibling to Osaka, Japan’s style of okonomiyaki, Chinchikurin’s fare is showing out in presentation and taste. Your eyes are drawn to the layered goodness of ingredients, followed by your tastebuds getting treated to flavor that coincides with the yummy aesthetics.
