Lunchables Are Finally Being Added To School Lunch Programs

Goodbye square pizza, because it’s looking like the cafeteria-time meal that made every kid jealous is finally hitting schools. Starting this fall, Kraft Heinz’s popular pre-packaged meal, Lunchables, will be available through lunch school programs. In order to meet the criteria of federal guidelines, some adjustments were made to the ingredients of the grocery store version.

Two new varieties of the cafeteria-ready Lunchables will be available at K-12 schools nationwide. Executive Vice President at Kraft Heinz, Carlos Abrams-Rivera, stated that each is more nutritious than the original, and adheres to the requirements of the National School Lunch program. As of now, no details about the specific Lunchable products have been provided.

On the website Kraft Heinz Away From Home, two products are listed as new for the 2023-24 school year, the “Lunchables Turkey and Cheddar Cracker Stackers” and the “Lunchables Extra Cheesy Pizza.” Not only were they made for the cafeteria, but also field trips, summer school, and dinner programs. Unlike many school lunch options, which require freezer storage, Lunchables only need to be refrigerated, which helps cut down on labor and cost.

Currently, details only reveal that the turkey and cheddar Lunchable comes with 2 oz. of meat and an equal amount of rich grain. While the cheesy pizza features the same meat to grain ratio, along with ⅛ cup of red/orange vegetables. Plant-based kids can rest easy because there’s an alternative meat option as well.
