Blue Moon Ditches Iconic Orange Slice For a Mini Pie As Garnish

After 27 years of garnishing its beers with orange wheels, Blue Moon Brewing Company has decided that the sunny citrus has lost its “a-peel” and is ditching it for something sweeter.

For a limited time this holiday season, Blue Moon is swapping its signature fruit ornament and replacing it with pie via its Blue Moon Pie Pints. Blue Moon brewers partnered with Baked by Melissa’s Melissa Ben-Ishay to craft three pie recipes created to pair with their beers.

  • Spiced Citrus Pumpkin Pie: For its signature Blue Moon Belgian White Belgian-Style Wheat Ale, Ben-Ishay focused on a Thanksgiving classic. The Spiced Citrus Pumpkin Pie incorporates dashes of coriander and orange zest that compliment the subtle sweetness and bright, citrus aroma of the beer.
  • Tropic Sky Pie: For LightSky, she created a pastry packed with a mango and pineapple custard filling that compliments the flavors of LightSky Citrus Wheat and Tropical Wheat.
  • Coconut Citrus Pie: For Moon Haze, the focus was on citrus and coconut flavors to balance its hoppiness and juicy flavor profile.

“Blue Moon’s orange wheel garnish is so iconic it would take something special for us to even consider replacing it,” said Leah Bowman, Associate Marketing Manager at Molson Coors Beverage Company. “As a leader in the mini baked goods space, Melissa Ben-Ishay was the perfect fit to create mini seasonal pie pints recipes that not only pair with each beer, but elevate the table and palate alike.”

“Whenever I come up with a new cupcake flavor or write a new recipe, I’m focused on getting the perfect bite. With the Blue Moon Pie Pints, you get the perfect bite and sip!” said Melissa Ben-Ishay, CEO and co-founder of Baked by Melissa.

Now through Friday, November 11, fans can buy a limited quantity of Blue Moon Pie Pints three-packs per day at BlueMoonPiePints.com. Every Blue Moon Pie Pint is baked fresh by the bakers at Brooklyn-based bakery, Pie Corps.
