Chef who Lost Stomach to Cancer Writes His Own Cookbook

Hans Rueffert was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The rising star that competed in the very first season of The Next Food Network Star was set to have it all. But once the doctors told him the news, it all changed.

Hans was facing a two percent chance of survival. Doctors told the young chef that he would lose his ability to eat food. The cancer had already spread to his esophagus and in the first surgery, the top portion of Hans’ stomach was removed as well as the majority of his esophagus. A second surgery was required that resulted in him losing the rest of his stomach and 95 percent of his esophagus.

Though the treatment saved his life, it cost him his stomach.

Through his treatments, Hans wrote a cookbook entitled: Eat Like There’s No Tomorrow. The cookbook contains healthy recipes accompanied by pictures taken by his wife Amy. It also includes personal essay about family, illness, and food.
