Magnum Ice Cream Teams With High Fashion Designer to Create Dress Using Coffee Bean Husks
Fashion design and ice cream fused together for this year’s Paris Fashion Week at Elysée Montmartre during Iris Van Herpen’s 15th Anniversary show.
Perfectly suited to tackle innovative designs, Iris Van Herpen is known for forward-thinking fashion creations that strike a fine balance between beautifully complex and sustainably aware. New to the space, this is Magnum Ice Cream’s first circular fashion outing, a system which works to circulate clothing for the duration of its lifetime.
Believing a day without indulgence is a day lost, the collaboration is a celebration of sustainable fashion that fuses cocoa beans with haute couture.
The Magnum Vegan Haute Couture Dress was brought to life by a complex 3-dimensional design. Using processed cocoa bean husks, Iris’ fashion masterminds created a fully organic biopolymer material. Science aside, the dress looks simply amazing.
Copper-coated plantlike body embellishments are draped and entwined with an upcycled organza. Interesting 3D-printed touches using innovative SLS Technology (Selective Laser Sintering) refine the design.
Naturally, a dress only truly comes alive when it’s worn, and that honor was given to French fashion model Cindy Bruna. As part of Iris Van Herpen’s 15th anniversary collection entitled “Meta Morphism,” the Magnum Vegan Dress was inspired by digitalism’s ever-growing presence in our daily lives.
The collaboration is one of Magnum Ice Cream’s plans to be the first of many which shows their long-term commitment to sustainable fashion. In partnership, they’re commissioning a research project with the Leeds Institute of Textiles and Colour that involves studying how to reuse the brand’s core ingredients in fashion.
