Ben & Jerry’s To End Sales of Ice Cream in Occupied Palestinian Territory

Ben & Jerry’s has long been known as a socially conscious brand, whether it be standing for voting rights, racial justice or LGBTQ+ rights. This time around, they’ve sided with Palestine in the state’s long conflict with Israel.

The Vermont-based ice cream brand announced today that its agreement with its licensee in Israel will not be renewed when it expires at the end of 2022, after which Ben & Jerry’s will no longer be sold in occupied Palestinian territories. Their ice cream will, however, continue to be sold in Israel, “through a different arrangement,” Ben & Jerry’s stated.

East Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Golan Heights, and Gaza is recognized by international law as occupied territory under United Nations Security Council Resolutions, and Ben & Jerry’s stance to recognize this falls in line with their liberal and progressive values.
