South Korean Cinema Has Cement Bags Of Popcorn In Case Buckets Are Too Small
For those who usually eat their entire popcorn bucket by the time the previews end at the movies, there’s one theater chain doling out massive popcorn portions that literally come in cement bags.
South Korean cinema group CGV started carrying these bags a couple of weeks ago, and are selling them for an absolute steal. Each humongous bag of popcorn costs about 9,900 Korean Won, according to The Hive. That translates to just $8.86 in US Dollars, roughly the same cost as a large popcorn bucket at US cinemas prior to the pandemic.
It’s unclear just how much popcorn is inside of these in terms of weight. If one were to try to calculate based on a 25 kg cement bag (which appears in the above photos), however, you could estimate that the popcorn would weigh about 24 ounces, or a pound and a half. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but popcorn is really light, so it does translate to a massive amount.

That light weight could explain some of the viral photos CGV has shared on their Facebook since the promotion went live, as folks have been spotted carrying out multiple cement bags of popcorn. CGV is making the popcorn available for takeout, delivery, or in theater, so those still staying home can get in on these incredible portions.
You can get popcorn delivered if near a cinema offering home delivery, and get the popcorn cement bag if near selected CGV. Not sure if model comes with the bag though 🥲 pic.twitter.com/O9Y1uJxstT

The popcorn bags have also been circulating on social media because of how CGV chose to promote them. They got a model to shoot with the popcorn bags, and some of the photos were quite gratuitous.

Regardless of the eye-popping size of the popcorn portion, or how CGV chose to promote it, one has to wonder how long it would take to consume one of those bags. For me, a few hours, give or take.
