McDonald’s Is Turning Its Arches Upside Down For International Women’s Day

McDonald’s is turning things around and celebrating International Women’s Day by flipping its arches upside down.

At least one location, as shown in Good Day LA’s video above, has turned their sign upside down — prompting plenty of questions as to what was going on. Business Insider was able to uncover the truth about the inverted logo, as a McDonald’s representative confirmed that it is meant to celebrate International Women’s Day, which occurs on March 8.

This sole location isn’t the only place that’s turning its arches upside down. On the actual day, McDonald’s will flip its insignia over on all of its social media channels. One hundred different restaurants will also have special packaging, crew shirts, hats, and bag stuffers “in celebration of women everywhere,” according to a statement. It’s unclear if any other restaurants will flip the golden arches upside down, however.

McDonald’s actions to celebrate International Women’s Day marks the first time the fast food company is recognizing the occasion. McDonald’s global chief diversity officer, Wendy Lewis, spoke of the annual celebration of women in a statement.

“From restaurant crew and management to our C-suite of senior leadership, women play invaluable roles at all levels, and together with our independent franchise owners, we’re committed to their success.”
