What You Should Be Eating At L.A.’s New Restaurant Inside ‘The Belasco,’ Les Coulisses
The historical Belasco Theater is still to this day one of the most premier nightlife destinations in a city teeming with concert halls. The vibe at The Belasco radiates the mere definition of ‘hip’, and their new restaurant Les Coulisses is no exception.
The FOODBEAST crew had the opportunity to dine at Les Coulisses fairly soon after its opening – which is definitely one of the biggest perks of the job.
If there’s one thing you should know, it’s that a meal at Les Coulisses is designed to stick with you. When you walk in it seems like a normal, upscale restaurant, but about halfway through your meal, it’ll hit you – this place is fantastic.
From creating a menu that’s meant to be a hit among the most contrasting eaters to the attention to detail and exquisite plating consistent throughout each course, Les Coulisses has really done it right.
Here are some must-haves at LA’s hottest new restaurant.
1. Crostini Board
The Crostini Board will be the hit of the party. It’s hard not to love a plate of freshly baked crostini topped with all the flavor combinations under the sun. My favorite had to have been the one pictured – luscious burrata topped with roasted tomato and basil.
Others in the group flocked to the rendition with Serrano ham, melon, lardo, chicken liver mousse, and figs, and I certainly don’t blame them for it.
2. Crispy Octopus
This ain’t your average calamari, friends. First off, each piece of octopus was meaty and delicious, not fried to a crisp like it’s served more often than not.
This octopus was tender and artful, and served alongside vibrant flavors provided by fingerling potatoes, celery, tarragon, and a blood orange gastrique. The hearty octopus was balanced nicely by the starchy potatoes and pop of acid from the orange.
3. Moroccan Spiced Chicken Tagine
If your tastebuds weren’t awake yet by this point in the meal for some unknown reason, your first bite of this tagine will do the trick.
Think juicy chicken, tangy spiced apricots, aromatic chickpeas, creamy sunchokes, and almonds for some crunch. To describe this dish as well-balanced would still be an understatement.
4. Oxtail Agnolotti
These agnolotti are like little clouds of air. It’s apparent after one nibble this pasta is homemade and fresh. Each bite is filled with rich oxtail that’s complimented by some tart Granny Smith apples, slightly sweet butternut squash, and a luscious oxtail jus.
5. Chocolate Hazelnut Torte
It wouldn’t be a FOODBEAST dinner if there wasn’t dessert involved. Not gonna lie, we ordered one of everything, but this was the sweet that really stood out.
This chocolate hazelnut torte was the epitome of rich decadence. Considering its components – chocolate cake, Nutella mousse, créme fraiche, and ice cream – this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. 10/10 best dessert I’d had in a minute.
Next time you’re looking for a spot in DTLA to grab a bite before a night out – or a show at The Belasco – look no further than Les Coulisses.
