Studio Faces Backlash For Racist ‘Dirty Chinese Restaurant’ Mobile Game
A small Canadian game studio is receiving some serious backlash for their new app, Dirty Chinese Restaurant, that’s chock full of racist stereotypes.
Video trailers of the game uploaded to YouTube depict the main character, a Chinese restaurant owner, performing shady activities to keep his business running. These include hunting down dogs and cats with his cleaver, dumpster diving to get “discounted” ingredients, gambling, and taking on street thugs, all of which just happen to be black. The main character also evades tax collectors and has to deal with immigration officers coming in and deporting some of his workers.
Dirty Chinese Restaurant was developed by Big-O-Tree Games. If the name didn’t allude to how the company feels about current world matters, their slogan, “Because being politically correct is so… boring,” should give you a clue.
The game has been in development for over a year, but the studio’s website claims that they will be available on Android and iPhone app stores soon. In response, New York congresswoman Grace Meng took to social media to voice her concerns over the racist mobile game.
Twitter users are currently having a field day over news of this game, with some pretty sharp reactions to its existence.
Hate in your backyard PM Trudeau. https://t.co/YzoYdE9AiG
Developed in Markham, Ontario. Hate is not a game

With their title under development called “Dirty Chinese Restaurant”, they’re basically trying to sell to gamergaters.

Thankfully it is highly unlikely the game will make into Android and iPhone app stores. Google and Apple both prohibit games and apps that contain discriminatory or racist content on their stores, and this app clearly falls into that category.
