Inmates Use Peanut Butter To Pull Off Daring Jailbreak

In what sounds like a tale that you think would only happen in a movie or TV show’s comedic prison breakout scene, a group of inmates were able to execute a jailbreak in Alabama thanks to their crafty use of peanut butter.

According to ABC7, a dozen inmates tricked a rookie employee at the Walker County Jail into opening the wrong door, giving them the opportunity they needed to breakout. This nutty scheme was accomplished by using peanut butter scraped out of sandwiches they were served to change the number above the outside door to the number of one of their cell doors. The inmates then asked the staffer to open the cell door for them, and he unwittingly gave them the opportunity they needed to break free.

The dozen jailbreakers then threw blankets over a razor wire fence, climbed over, and made their peanut butter-fueled escape. They didn’t get too far, though, as a couple of them were injured and all were eventually recaptured.

The Walker County sheriff admits that the new employee, who was in charge of overseeing 150 people, made a mistake, but also added that peanut butter would still continue to be served to employees.
