Russian Mafia Members Arrested For Stealing 10,000 Pounds Of Chocolate

This literally sounds like something straight out of a crime drama.

A “confidential government source” arranged a sale of 10,000 pounds of stolen chocolates with members of New York City’s Russian Mafia, according to the NY Post. This sale was apparently instrumental in helping to uncover a myriad of charges against the organized crime group known as the Shulaya Enterprise.

The FBI was then able to bust and arrest 25 of the 32 members they had accused of the various crimes on Wednesday. The alleged capers included the trafficking and sale of the aforementioned chocolate, an illegal poker operation, and even a murder-for-hire conspiracy.

The bust also marks one of the first times in history that federal racketeering (aka dishonest and fraudulent business dealings) charges were brought against a Russian mob boss.

Too bad these guys won’t be able to enjoy their chocolate while they’re in prison. If the charges stick, that is, ’cause we’ve all seen enough mafia films to know that they always try to find a way out.
