United Tried To Benefit Off Of The Wendy’s Nuggets Guy And The Internet Said Nope

United Airlines really needs to learn when to slow its roll.

After dealing with multiple PR disasters in the past month, United tried to get into the good graces of the internet this past week by capitalizing on the efforts of Carter Wilkerson, AKA the guy who broke the retweet record on Twitter to get a year’s supply of Wendy’s nuggets.

Last month, when the stories of Wilkerson began popping up, United initially offered him a flight to any Wendy’s in the world if he got the 18 million retweets Wendy’s initially proposed. After Wendy’s gave him the nuggets anyway for breaking the retweet record, United also invited Wilkerson to message them to get a direct flight to anywhere in the world.

The Twitterverse, of course, was having none of United’s shenanigans, and let the company know how they felt about this offer in a barrage of hysterical tweets attacking the airline.

We don’t know if Wilkerson officially accepted United’s offer as of right now, but maybe he will heed the same people that got him his free nuggets and avoid this free flight. Only time will tell.
