Watching This Shrimp Rip Open A Fish’s Stomach & Pulling Out Another Fish Reminds Us Why We Fear The Sea

We’ve seen before how terrifying the denizens of the deep can be when the hunger pangs set in. Spider crabs, for example, chill us to our very cores.

A new video has surfaced that shows a seemingly harmless caridean shrimp battling it out with a dragonfish. The footage, Newsweek reports, then takes a pretty dark turn as the shrimp begins to tear open the fish’s stomach, exposing a second fish that the shrimp precedes to extract.

Holy shit.

The footage was obtained by a team of scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Definitely not a video for the squeamish, but it’s fascinating to get a look at the dichotomy of the underwater world.

It reminds us of two kaiju tearing each other apart. Makes us take a second look the second time we try to eat shrimp.
