Whole Foods Savagely Owned This Photo-Stealing, No Credit-Giving Restaurant

Instagram is full of reposted photos and videos, so-much-so that it’s almost impossible to tell where everything originally came from. Watermarked photos and videos used to be a good way to claim your content, but even that practice has failed us as popular Instagram accounts now just add their watermarks to other people’s posts.

You’d think a restaurant account would post its own content, promoting its own food and photo thievery in this instance wouldn’t be a problem. But it became a problem when a Canadian restaurant named Venice Crudo Bar tried taking full credit for someone else’s photo.

The Montreal-based bar posted a photo of an item that food blogger and father extraordinaire @Dad_Beets posted to his Instagram account. The photo and tasty creation was spicy tuna poke with avocado over a rice cake. It was healthy, looked amazing, and earned over 7,000 “likes” on Dad_beets Instagram account.

Venice Crudo Bar has a similar item on-menu, but took the liberty of claiming @dad_beets’ version, adding it to their Instagram account and never credited the original poster. Then Dad_beets called them out, justly.

That kind of image stealing is pretty common, unfortunately, but the restaurant went a step further. Whole Foods reposted the photo, because Dad_beets used their poke and tagged the grocery store. Upon seeing the image, Venice’s Instagram account, @venicemtl, had the audacity to ask Whole Foods for image credit, even saying that it’s “not cool” that Whole Foods didn’t shout them out.

So they took someone else’s photo, took credit for it, then asked someone else to give them credit for something that was never theirs. Whole Foods clapped back with a savage response, as they got the photo from its original creator and credited Mr. dad_beets himself.

This restaurant learned the hard way that you shouldn’t steal other people’s work. Reposting memes, videos, inspirational quotes and food photos is cool, but don’t go around taking credit for it. Y’all post-stealers are corny and always deserve to be called out. For shame, Venice Crudo. Post more carefully and always give proper credit, even if it really looks like it could be yours.
