This Is How To Hack An Unripe Avocado In Minutes

Tip Hero just came in with an essential summer food hack: how to ripen an avocado in MINUTES.

Here are the directions via Tip Hero:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Wrap the avocado(s) you want to ripen in aluminum foil and place on a baking sheet.
  3. Stick the baking sheet in the oven and let the avocado warm for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove the avocado(s) from the oven and place them in the refrigerator. Let sit in the fridge until completely cool.

Every time you go to the store in search of a decently ripe avocado, they all seem to be at least several days away from that peak ripeness that’s just so beautiful.

Seems like most of us run into this problem pretty often:

The video explains how the avocado naturally ripens and that putting it in the oven wrapped in foil just speeds this process up. Genius!

“Avocados produce ethylene gas, which is typically released slowly, causing the fruit to ripen. But as the avocado bakes in tinfoil, the gas surrounds it, putting the ripening process into hyperdrive.” –Pure Wow

Hey hey hey, cool your jets, I know what you’re thinking: “A hot avocado? Gross.” Pure Wow adds that you can just pop that ‘cado right into the fridge to cool. They also tell us that if the avocado is nowhere near ripe and rock hard, you’ll probably be baking your avocado for an hour or more, so there is a time window for this hack.

This tip couldn’t have come in at a better time as I just bought 3 firm avocados from Trader Joe’s that are going to end up in some foil in the oven tonight!
