The Cleveland Indians SACRIFICED A CHICKEN To Help Their Slumping Teammate

Baseball is full of weird rituals and superstitions, and if you don’t believe me, the Cleveland Indians performed an exorcism over the weekend in order to help their struggling teammate.

Catcher Yan Gomes hasn’t played too well this year, hitting well below the average of expectation for even a sorry player, so his teammates, being the helpful group that they are, gathered together and sacrificed a whole, uncooked chicken, in the name of Jobu.

Some of you are wondering what the hell’s a “Jobu,” while others are laughing their asses off, remembering the sacred rituals performed by Pedro Cerrano in the movie “Major League,” which was also about the Cleveland Indians.

In the movie, Cerrano prayed to a god named “Jobu,” to take away the fear from his baseball bat, so he can hit a curve ball. He would pour rum, light candles and tried to sacrifice a chicken at one point.

Now, 27 years later, the Indians asked Jobu for some help, as they went to Target, bought a whole chicken and went on with their sacred ritual to help aid Gomes’s bat.

Gomes chopped the store-bought chicken in half and actually ended up getting a base hit Sunday. Hopefully a sign that his bat is no longer afraid of hitting, but only time will tell if Jobu accepted his sacrifice.
