Complimentary Breakfast Sways Hotel Reservation Decision Making
A consumer trend report released earlier today observing the feelings and decision-making of 1,500 consumers has given us some unique insight into the power of a free breakfast. While some may argue it petty, the idea of some toast and jam in your hotel’s lobby, the Technomic report finds that consumers actually have their hotel choices swayed by the availability of particular food services.
“Complimentary breakfasts are often viewed as a drain on [hotel] revenues“, says Darren Tristano of Technomic. Indeed, the report continues to support that consumers are seeking out these type of menial amenities when making lodging choices.
The findings of the report end up revealing more about the contrast of eating and spending habits between Business Travelers and Leisure guests. Business travelers order room service more often than those traveling for leisure. In fact, a quarter of business guests (24 percent) compared to just 12 percent of leisure guests purchase room service during their most recent overnight hotel stay.
In conclusion, hotels may be throwing free HBO and a heated pool your way, but it’s the complimentary consumables such as breakfast and in-room coffee that seems to hold the highest importance amidst amenities customers are looking for.
