The Fruits And Vegetables That Actually Help You Lose Weight, According To Science

It doesn’t take a Mythbuster to figure out fruits and veggies are healthier than, let’s say, Cheetos and Krispy Kreme donuts, but there are actually some fruits and vegetables that are more effective than others.

For 24 years, researchers studied 117,918 US men and women in their 30s and 40s, keeping tabs on them every four years, according to the New York Times.

They asked the subjects questions about their diets and noticed big changes in weight loss when the guinea pigs, I mean, participants ate certain fruits and vegetables.

They found that overall, people who started eating more fruit, lost about .53 pounds, and an increase of vegetables led to a loss of .25 pounds.

They concluded that when people ate a serving of specific fruits, such as pears (Thanks, Rick Ross) and Broccoli, they lost weight.

On the flip side, eating starchy veggies such as corn, peas and potatoes actually made people gain weight.

All their data was recorded on the PLOS Medicine journal, and these are the fruits and vegetables that led to the most weight loss:
