Subway Announces Co-Founder And CEO, Fred DeLuca, Has Died At 67

Subway announced the death of its CEO and co-founder Fred DeLuca, Monday.

DeLuca was only 67 years old and had been battling with Leukemia since 2013, according to Bloomberg.

According to NPR, in 1965, DeLuca and partner Peter Buck started a sandwich shop called Pete’s Super Submarines, but the name only lasted three years, as in 1968, the name was changed to Subway.

DeLuca’s net worth was about $3.5 billion, as he helped grow Subway into the third largest fast food restaurant in the world with over 10,000 restaurants, according to Forbes.
