Chick-fil-A Owner Who Had To Shut Down Restaurant For 5 Months Still Paid His Workers

A Chick-fil-A owner recently had to shut down his restaurant for five months due to renovations, but what he announced to his employees beforehand shocked them most of all.

Jeff Glover is the owner of a Chick-fil-A store in Austin, Texas and manages 50 employees. Normally, a store closing would mean that the workers are out of a job for that whole time, but Glover had other ideas.

Five months ago before the close, Glover announced to his staff that he would pay all 50 of his workers their normal wages for the entire five months. On top of that, he gave all his employees a $1 and hour raise for staying with him.

Five months later, Glover’s store has reopened and his promise has been fulfilled.

Workers at that specific Chick-fil-A are already paid $11 an hour to start — full-time workers earn roughly $3,600 a month before taxes according to KVUE. Glover explained to the local news station:

“It would be a real financial crisis for the 50 families represented by the workers here to have to go five months without a job.

Evidently, Glover’s Chick-fil-A is world-class in taking care of its workers and customers. One worker told the local news:

“I wasn’t expecting less than that — he is always taking care of us.”

Customers on Yelp also rave about Glover’s Chick-fil-A. One customer wrote:

“This Chick-fil-A rocks. They have a great system during busy lunch hours. I don’t know how they do it because every time my order is right and fresh. Great job guys!”

Another customer raved on the unexpected friendliness from the fast-food chain:

“Even in the noon hour, we easily found a parking spot and walked in. The place was full, but every register was open. No wait in line, and then we get a NUMBER for our table. Delivered to your table fast food? And then being asked if we had everything we needed, instead of just dumping it off? Shut the front door!

A subsequent staffer asking if ‘everything was OK’ caught us off guard. Two more stops offering (and happily getting us) drink refills was shocking. Table clearing, but not in a way that made it seem like they wanted us to leave, caught us off guard.

Then the kicker. When asked if we needed ‘anything else,’ my friend coyly mentioned wanting a ‘Banana Pudding Shake.’  The helpful staffer said ‘What size to you want? The Small is $2.78.’ (I might not have the number right, but he did). So he took the $3, and came back in a few minutes with my friend’s shake and the change.

Amazing. At a fast food place.”

Glover is just one of Chick-fil-A’s good-guy owners. Earlier this year, Alabama store owner Mark Meadows went above and beyond to help a hungry and cold homeless man during the winter.
