TRANS FAT Has Officially Been Banned By The FDA
The US Food and Drug Administration officially deemed trans fat as unsafe for human consumption and wants it to disappear from all food by 2018.
CNN reports that the FDA came out Tuesday and gave food manufacturers a three year window to get rid of partially hydrogenated oils from all of its food.
*Pro tip: Whenever the term “Partially hydrogenated oil” is in the list of ingredients, it means it has trans fat, even if the label says it has “zero.”
The consumer’s concerns over trans fat has been there, as evident by several big name companies slapping “Zero grams of trans fat” on a lot of their packaging.
Trans fats have raised fear because they are not a natural fat, but a man made fat that have been been known to lead to heart disease and even memory loss.
Manufacturers will have a chance to petition for the use of trans fat though, so if the FDA approves the individual requests, they could still loophole their way into using it.
