This Artist Takes Stadium Food Trays And Turns Them Into Masterpieces
About four years ago, graphic designer Jillian Shundo found a way to combine her love for art, baseball and food by taking the ol’ hot dog/drink trays at Dodger Stadium and creating wonderful works of art.
Shundo might cook up a quick sketch in a couple innings, or if it’s something more inricate, she might work on it throughout the whole 3-hour game.
“I usually start in the first or second inning (however long it takes to chow down on a dodger dog or other stadium food item),” Shundo said. “I only work on it between pitches and innings. If it’s an interesting game, the drawing may be on the back burner.“
Whether it’s a portrait of a Dodger player, or a design to celebrate a special occasion such as Mother’s Day, Jillian has compiled hundreds of tray sketches over the years.
“It comes to me while I sit in the stadium or maybe another influence from my day-to-day surroundings.”
From the moment Shundo picked up her first crayon, she fell in love with drawing and eventually found a way to turn her passion into a profession as a freelance graphic designer.
