This Chicago Bakery Just Combined Meatloaf, Cupcakes and Spaghetti
Sure, 2014 gave us such crisscrossed delights as Dorito-crusted pizza and nutellasagna — for which we are eternally grateful — but we’re only a few months into 2015 and we’ve already seen cruffins, pretzel bagels, Sriracha ketchup, bacon wrapped pizza and ramen pot pie. Yes, this is your cue to salivate.
And now? Cupcake meatloaf. That’s right. The Meatloaf Bakery of Chicago is mashing up traditional comfort foods with the creation of its Loaf-A-Roma — the cupcake shaped meatloaf topped with a 3-inch swirl of angel hair pasta. As featured on Cooking Channel’s Food(ography), Chief Meatloaf Maker Cynthia Kallile begins with the basics, building her loaf with a traditional Italian mixture of beef and sausage, gooey mozzarella cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil and a splash of red wine. The mini meatloaves are then shaped into cupcake formation and topped with a swirl of angel hair pasta that’s been lightly tossed in a homemade marinara. Pair this comfort food concoction with a side of marinara and a glass of Montepulciano and consider dinner served.
Stop by the Chicago locale to sample the Loaf-A-Roma as a “loafie” — a bite-size hors d’oeuvre sold at $2 a pop. Craving a little more loaf in your life? Opt for the cupcake version, which serves as an individual meal and retails for only $9.95. Hosting a meatloaf party? (I mean, who isn’t?) You can pre-order a box of eight 6-ounce cupcakes for $49.95 and have them shipped nationwide.
