Adventure: Taco Mesa (Mission Viejo, CA)
As part of our bi-weekly contributions to the Mission Viejo Patch publication, Taylor and I made our way to the Mission Viejo branch of one of our favorite Mexican food eateries, Taco Mesa. While our normal visits to Taco Mesa revolve around their amazing Taco Tuesdays (can you say $1 gourmet tacos, margaritas and $1.50 Tecates?), this particular trip was a bit more sophisticated.
Everything about Taco Mesa locations make me happy. The fair prices, the fun decor, the salsa bar (jump on their escibiche, it’s free and filling, a great appetizer to any meal there!), and of course, their expansive menu. Oh yeah, and the chips and guacamole:
When I caught wind that breakfast was served all day, I quickly hopped on the chance to try their Scrambled Egg Torta ($4.99). Imagine freshly cooked scrambled eggs on a Mexican roll lined with chipotle mayo, Dijon mustard, romaine lettuce, tomato, avocado and grilled onions.
Taylor decided to go a few steps more in the ridiculous direction and pick the restaurant’s notorious Burrito de Langosta, a delicious culmination of sauteed lobster with spinach, mushrooms, tomato and red onion wrapped up in a warm flour tortilla and drenched with tequila lime cream sauce. The burrito came with a side of black epazote beans and “arroz del dia,” a rice dish that was complete with grains and cranberries sprinkled throughout.
With both our meals combined, we walked out of the doors with tummies stuffed and just under $20 lighter in the pocket. Can’t beat that!
