Pastrmajlija: A Macedonian Pizza

One thing I enjoy about our new contributor, Kate, is the amount of culture, variety and culinary education I receive from her creations on a weekly basis. In the case of this Pastramjlija, we get a look at a dish typical of Macedonian cuisine, a rectangular shaped pizza dough complete with chopped up pork chops topped with an egg wash.

The entire recipe is available on Kate’s Diethood blog, but the quick rundown includes fresh dough topped with pork cubes, seasoned, dabs of all-vegetable shortening on top of the meat, and later covered with a whisked egg mixture and baked in the oven. Count me in for a couple slices of this, I can hardly control my drool!
