University of California Brand Special Blend Olive Oil

Apparently the University of California has had a “love affair with olives [that] goes back more than a century”. With their latest initiative, they pay some relatively decent homage to the foodies coming out of their educational institutions. The President’s Blend extra virgin olive oil features oil donated by fine California olive oil producers and was specially selected by UC President Mark Yudof.

The sales of this oil aim to fund the UC’s effort to lead the world in olive research. Utilizing a first-of-its kind bottling from the UC Davis Olive Center, the oil offers up a special blend of 25% Frantoio (Italian) olives and 75% Arbequina (Spanish) olives with four Italian varietals. The president of the 10-school UC system describes the taste as, “…very nice, nutty flavor…pungent and not very bitter.” Thanks Yudof, appreciate the delicious commentary. ($12 @ UCI BOOKSTORE)
