Amazing Sushi ‘Paintings’ Make Latte Art Obsolete

egypt-sushi

Forget your fancy latte with a heart in the foam.  This Japanese sushi chef, who goes by the elusive name of Tama-Chan (a recently beloved bearded seal “mascot” of Japan) is using sushi as a blank canvas to make incredible art.

Tama-Chan seems to specialize in famous paintings, such as Edvard Munch’s “Scream” and Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring.” He also likes to play around with landscapes, popular symbols and yes, cats.

We imagine it must take a lot of skill to conceive some of  his more elaborate designs, especially once you realize he has to see what the picture will look like before he rolls the sushi and cuts it.  So many people are curious about his technique that he’s started to hold workshops in Tokyo’s Omotesando neighborhood.

Check out some more of Tama-Chan’s creations below.
