Google Adds Nutritional Information for More Than 1000 Foods

Google announced today that nutrition facts will be added to the popular search engine. Available over the web, mobile and via voice search, Google will answer your burning food questions.

Users can ask a simple question such as “How many calories are in a banana?” or something more specific such as “what the heck is Spam REALLY made of?” You can even specify the serving size you’re wondering about. If you prefer a more comprehensive overview of your food item of choice, just type it into the search bar and Google will give you the complete nutritional breakdown of your item.

This nifty new feature is powered by Google’s Knowledge Graph, which pulls information relevant to your question  from all corners of the interweb. The search engine even goes above and beyond to bring you additional related facts, as explained by Google’s Search Blog:

For example, when you ask for ‘summer squash carbs’, we include ‘zucchini’ as a relevant food in the dropdown, because it is a type of summer squash.”

The nutrition search feature is rolling out in the US over the next ten days and will launch with the facts of over 1,000 foods with more being added daily.
