Happy Star Rewards: Carl’s Jr. & Hardee’s to Jump Into Mobile Apps

Fast-food chains Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. have more than 3,000 locations across the country, so what’s the best way to encourage customer interaction with their brand? Launching a loyalty mobile app, of course! The result of this forward thinking sees the upcoming launch of the brand’s Happy Star Rewards app, available for both the iPhone and Android mobile operating systems in the near future.

This application is a hybrid content aggregator (Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s menus, nutrition facts, commercials, location-finder etc.) and location-based loyalty application, utilizing check-in technology similar to Foursquare and Gowalla, the new Happy Star Rewards app allows customers to check in, and after just four check-ins, they will be given chances to spin “The Wheel of Awesome” for prizes, both food-related and hard-good (Blu-ray players, video game consoles, etc.). Imagine that loyalty punch card of yester-year, but this time, it’s on your phone! When it’s time for your free meal, just show the coupon on your phone to the cashier!

We think this is a great step forward, and a rather admirable way of releasing a brand-related app that isn’t simply geared to regurgitating information already available on the respective brand websites. No release date has been given for these applications, but we will let you know when they become available!
