Professor Haub Lost 27 Pounds Eating Junk Food

In an effort to showcase the profound misconceptions of weight-loss plans and dieting/nutrition, professor of human nutrition at Kansas State University, Mark Haub, set out on a diet of junk food for 10 weeks. His plan was to regularly consume, on a timer of 3 hour intervals, a myriad of Hostess and Little Debbie snacks, also including Doritos chips, sugary cereals and Oreos in the diet as well.

While he didn’t promote his actions as healthy, he did set out to prove that on simple calorie and portion restriction, you can lose weight by simply curbing the amount of calories you consume. His diet restricted him to under 1,800 calories a day, and his normal exercise regimen was no different than what it was before the experiment began. According to a report from CNN, he lost 27 pounds, his “bad” cholesterol (LDL) fell 20 percent while his “good” cholesterol (HDL) jumped 20 percent.

The professor’s ongoing diet experiments are being recorded live via his Facebook page. It’s also fair to note that while his diet consisted of mainly junk-food, he did consume multi-vitamin pills, protein shakes, coffee and raw vegetables (mainly to set a good example at dinner time to his family). His actions prove that weight loss is achievable, but the experiment does very little to explain proper eating habits, and he’s quick to agree to that point.

While the experiment seem unhealthy and seemingly avoids the question of sugar-related negative long term effects, the data that is presented should impress those who are looking for a quick-turnaround weight loss initiative.
