This ‘Red Wine’ Pill Takes All the Fun Out of Getting Healthy
We’ve all heard that a glass of red wine a day is good for you – that it helps prevent heart disease, is full of antioxidants, etc. But what if you could reap 100 times the normal health benefits of red wine just by taking a single pill? Yeahhhh, science bitch!
It’s just too bad these things are non-alcoholic.
Created by a group of researchers at Harvard Medical School, the “red wine pill” is designed to mimic the effects of the red wine compound resveratrol, which has been proven to activate a protein that “promotes health and longevity in animals,” according to Drinks Business.
Though the pill is still in the tasting stages, the drug appears to be safe for humans and to increase immunity in mice against obesity and aging. Scientists hope it will be commercially available within the next five years.
Now I know what you’re thinking, at least 60% of why anyone ever drinks red wine before bedtime is for the warm, sleepy time feeling it gives – which, in the case of this pill, will be sorely, sorely missed. But for anyone who might not like the taste of red wine (i.e., me), it could also be a solid way to drink to your health, without actually drinking.
Just call me when you have a “white wine” flavored-pill, mmkay?
