Apart from being the world’s top selling cookie, the Oreo brand is celebrating its 100th birthday this March 6th, 2012 with a limited-edition Birthday Cake-flavored Oreo. There’s a lot of interesting history to be recapped in the past century, in fact, did you know that the year Oreo was birthed was the same year the South Pole was discovered, as well as the tragic sinking of the Titanic?

The cookies will start hitting store shelves next week at a suggested retail price of $3.59 and they have nationwide distribution. While prices and availability may vary, expect these to be in as many stores as possible.

We were fortunate enough to get a box of our own so we could rummage through it and give these new cookies a try. Upon peeling open the box/bag, an aroma of birthday cake was pouring out. If you are even the slightest fan of the taste of birthday cake batter (think Funfetti), then you’ll have a good, sugary time with these new cookies. You get the colored speckled frosting on the interior, and the birthday-branded wafers for texture on the outside.

Each serving (2 cookies) is 6 grams of fat, 140 calories and 13 grams of sugar.

Here’s the consensus from around the office:

Tommy:

Eating these new Oreos brings a whole new meaning to the saying “It’s Like a Party In Your Mouth”

Phil:

I used to think it was cool to listen to Slayer and worship the devil, ’till I found out these cake batter Oreos are only available in heaven.

Rudy:

Do you know how to post videos to Facebook?

Geoff:

They’re good, but too rich for my taste. Wouldn’t eat more than one in a sitting.

Elie:

If I’m buying Oreos, I’m choosing these over the originals.

Valentine’s Day is a bogus holiday, and I’m not saying that from a single girl’s point of view. With that being said, many of us including myself still buy into it. My idea of a splurge is buying Dove Dark Chocolates, but I guess that’s low brow stuff for anyone willing to drop a few G’s on this $55,000 cupcake by Cupcake Gourmet and Warwick Jewelers.

If my quick Googling skills are correct, an 8-carat diamond ring like the one featured here typically goes for well under $50,000 that means you’re paying about $5,000 for A CUPCAKE. A little nuts, but I’ll support the purchase if it’s really for love.

Now I like like a mouthful of Super Hot Candy Balls as much as any other guy, but will my mouth be able to handle Timmy’s Ghost Pepper Super Hot Candy Balls? These candies are reported to hit over one million SHU of heat on the Scoville Scale. To put that in terms of everyday spicy things we put in our mouths: A jalepeno only hits 8,000 on the SHU scale at most and the infamous habenero pepper maxes out at 350,000. That’s not even anywhere close to these candy balls.

Each box of Timmy’s Ghost Pepper Super Hot Candy Balls comes with 30 pieces of “The hottest balls you will ever eat.” So ask yourself, are you brave enough to put a ball in your mouth? Maybe even a mouthful of balls? If you think you’re game, the candy is available now at ThinkGeek for $7.99 a box.

As one of those girls with a mildly gluttonous obsession for shoes, I heartily approve.

Buy a girl a cake, she’ll love you for a day. Teach her how to bake…and, she’ll have something to do every time her heart gets broken. Am I right?

Here’s a riddle: What has red velvet batter, is edible, and looks like a vital organ? The latest product of heartbreak: The Beating Heart Cake.

Heartbreak was Lorraine Tran’s main inspiration for the cake. “Naturally I was heart broken,” Tran recalls.

“I was dumped by my boyfriend, basically one week before Valentine’s.”

Lorraine isn’t just san emotional wreck with a sweet tooth, she’s a talented cake artist and entrepreneur (Chubbi Cakes in Southern California). Luckily for us, great art can come out of moments of great heart ache.

Amplified ten-fold, Valentine’s Day can be a bitch. We’ve all had those years where we justify how ridiculous the holiday truly is. It’s always the same rants:

Valentine’s Day is a manufactured holiday created to increase the sale of roses, pre-written cards, and pour salt on the wounds of those who have a hard time believing that Love exists in the first place. Am I right fellas? Cupid is an asshole with terrible aim. Am I right ladies? Oh Valentine’s is February 14th? Psh, that’s nothing but a Taco Tuesday to me!

Luckily enough for Lorraine, one of her best friends didn’t want her being alone on Valentine’s Day, so they arranged a play date where they would spend the afternoon baking. When deciding what type of cake to make, their minds drifted towards fun-loving “hearts” in celebration of the day.

Of course, Lorraine’s mind was elsewhere, and jokingly suggested they make a nasty, realistic looking bleeding heart…with a pulse. In essence, a huge “screw you to V-day.”

The result?

It’s a beautiful mess of delicious red velvet batter, fondant vein details throughout and a balloon apparatus at the core.

We’ve seen some realistically decorated cakes before, but this one, we can safely say, is the most “alive” dessert in recent memory. The nozzle used to get the heart pumping going was “super gross” and the movement and sound was so realistic that Lorraine admitted “it made us squirm.”

Just when you thought Valentine’s Day was all about broken hearts, someone like Lorraine comes along and shows you it’s about pseudo-functional ones. Hearts that are edible, and make your mom shriek of horror when you leave it on the counter top in a plastic bag and forget to tell her it’s just a cake.

Touché Valentine’s. Touché.

Not only do I want to introduce this cake, but after digging a bit deeper into the baker’s personal blog (meet Rosie), you’ll notice that this pretty looking baker out of Canada has found a neat little niche of baking, and intertwining her solid photography skills with cute mugshots of her children in the kitchen to relay her recipes.

Without further ado, here’s an Asparagus Cake…that looks like a potted plant of asparagus, but in fact, is entirely edible, and tastes nothing like asparagus. Yes, I am Captain Obvious. Sue me:
