The illustrious shake usually makes its way back to the menu in the days before St. Patrick’s Day, and this year, there have been several reports about the shake already available in some locations across the states.

The mint flavored, green-dyed vanilla milkshake has a fan-powered location finding website, for those of who need to know what locations are selling the drink. We’ll have more on a broader release of the Shamrock Shake when that information becomes official from the source.

Ever get stuck at work on a hot day and all you want is a nice cold drink? Then you get home and find that the only drinks you have are at room-damn-temperature?! Then you have the choice of either chugging it or throwing it in the freezer waiting until it’s cold enough to finally enjoy.

Either way, you end up rather unfulfilled. Every so often you hear that someone, somewhere, is going to invent the world’s first self chilling beverage. But has anyone actually ever done it?

According to Joseph Company International, the title goes to their new product: West Coast Chill. The beverage is said to be an all-natural energy drink that cools itself! Thanks to the company’s patented Chill Can, all you have to do is press a tab and the temperature of the can will drop 30°F in three minutes.

West Coast Chill is expected to hit stores late March to early April in the Southern California and Las Vegas areas, so make sure to keep an eye out!

In an effort to raise awareness of alcohol abuse by teens, pregnant women, and parental negligence, artist Anna Utopia Giordano created mock set of alcoholic bottles aimed towards children. These “PopBottles” feature an amalgam of some of the most popular kids brands around with some of the most well known alcohol labels. Among those are Barbie Vodka, Nintendo Gin, and Hello Kitty Grey Goose.

A pretty powerful message to all the inattentive parents out there who would rather have a drink or stick their child in front of a brand name than show some interest.

All you have to do is fill a shot glass with peach schnapps about halfway. Then pour in some Bailey’s Irish Cream on top of that so that the shot is practically full. Now, carefully add a little bit of blue curacao. Finally, after everything settles, throw in a couple drops of grenadine syrup.

Okay, maybe that’s pretty unlikely, but at least you have a pretty sick ice breaker.

That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Duff Beer is a reality. The beer that you knew all about growing up but could never physically have is now available in three dimensions with alcohol included. This isn’t some energy drink with the Duff label posing as beer, this is a premium lager that stands to get you into just as many ridiculous hijinks as our pal Homer. I haven’t been this excited about a fake product coming to life since Wonka Bars and Everlasting Gobstoppers.

If your wine tasting adventures are starting to get stale, maybe you should consider getting some Meteorito. Yeah, some wine aged and flavored with a 4.5 billion-year-old meteorite believed to be from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Ian Hutcheon’s blend begins with the aforementioned meteorite that was believed to have landed on Earth about 6,000 years ago. Then that intergalactic rock sat in a barrel of Cabernet Sauvignon for 12 months.

Currently, you’ll have to be near this man’s vineyard in Chile to get a taste. Most likely it’s out of our immediate price range, considering this thing should taste like a black hole mixed with distant stars. But atleast you know this wine exists now, so at your next wine and cheese party, you can talk about wine you wish you were sipping on.

This fermented tea has been hailed by yogis, hippies, and even celebrities such as Reese Witherspoon. As expected, you can already find it stockpiled on shelves of health food stores such as Whole Foods, but now it seems to be going mainstream.

In Dallas, Kombucha can be found on tap at many bars sold by the pint, unlike many bars around the country that mix it into drinks. With an alcohol content of less than .5 percent, it might be a nice alternative for those who like going to bars to socialize, but don’t want to get hammered.

FOODBEAST originally covered Drank in early 2011 before the brand had any major distribution. Now Drank has introduced a new flavor, Island Time, and is available in 43 states and many 7-Eleven stores. Both the original flavor and Island Time utilize a combination of Valerian Root, Rose Hips and Melatonin to ‘relax the body, mind and soul.‘ We’ve seen more and more new products entitled relaxation beverages (iChill, Vacation In A Bottle, Dream Water) — each press release claiming that this beverage category is the next ‘big thing.’

What do FOODBEAST readers think? Do you buy relaxation drinks regularly? Any Favorites? Are Relaxation Beverages or Coconut Water the next big thing?
A woman has been banned from a New Zealand home-brew contest on the simple fact that she was a female. Sounds like the ignorance of yesteryear, right?

Rachel Beer is the apparent victim. The appropriately-named woman has brewed about six of her own brews over the past few years, and has gotten some relatively positive feedback on her creations from friends. But the Lake Hayes A&P Show in Queenstown that she tried to enter told her that the contest was for “blokes only.”

The country’s Human Rights Commission noted that the competition may be in violation of the Human Rights Act, but considering Ms. Beer doesn’t intend to file a complaint, the commission was unable to comment on the situation further.

The New Zealand Herald rounded out their coverage of the situation with a very interesting quote from the President of the Brewers’ Guild of New Zealand, Ralph Bungard, who called the rule “ridiculous.” Bungard continued, reminding that “traditionally it was a woman’s job to brew the beer.”

The Society of Beer Advocates cites that of their 500 members, about 10% were women, and many had their own breweries. Female beer brewers, as Ralph Bungard explained, are known as “brewsters.”

“That was their job, to make beer, just as it was to bake the bread. It was a very female profession.”

I wonder if men bake out in those parts?

Boston-based Samuel Adams is brewing up a brand new beer for the upcoming Spring season entitled Alpine Spring that means to remind one of the crispness and freshness commonly associated with Spring. This unfiltered beer boasts a citrus-like aroma that can be attributed to the Tettnang hops used in the brewing process specifically for this beverage. This honey-colored piece of heaven is currently in stores now across the country.
